旋進電子衍射技術將目前廣泛應用的電子衍射方法擴展到定量晶體學領域，是電子晶體學的重大發展。應用旋進電子衍射技術以后，透射電鏡的電子衍射強度接近于運動學理論數字，可以使用X射線晶體學的軟件和方法進行處理，從而得到納米晶體的二維和三維晶體結構。

透射電鏡晶體取向和晶相發布自動分析系統類似于掃描電鏡上的EBSD（背散射電子衍射花樣）分析技術，但其分辨率更高（在場發射透射電鏡上可以達到5nm以下）、分析速度更快，而且適合于各種晶體類型。
