For example, BioForce’s technology is being used to create biosensors and to study cell biology at the single cell level. Additional applications include printing proteins to guide neural cell growth, printing signaling proteins to study stem cell differentiation, “inking” of micro-stamps for soft lithography, and bio-functionalization of microfluidic devices.

It is through our instrumentation success that we can pursue the third product focus; applications. The patented virus detection chip embodied in the ViriChip? platform is one such application. The ViriChip technology is designed to be sensitive and specific enough to detect a variety of different pathogens. These could include environmental pathogens (e.g., Noroviruses, coxsackieviruses), pathogens relevant to biodefense (e.g., smallpox, hemorrhagic fever viruses), animal and plant viruses (e.g., foot and mouth disease, rinderpest, Avian influenza, West Nile), and human disease agents (e.g., Human papilloma virus, herpes viruses, SARS).
